How to Find Content Inspiration For Building in Public (+ Templates)
Watch out! You just might save this😊.
Hi there, how have you been since our last piece?
Building global competence, we hope😏
Well, today we have more to share… it’s the proven blueprint for staying consistent with building in public + templates.
In The Beginning…
Everything is exciting (in the beginning).
You are fired up, eager to learn a digital skill and can’t wait to practice what you have learnt.
Then You Get to The Middle…
Here, it’s very demure, very mindful🙃.
You are beginning to realize that it’s not so easy, and the more you learn, the less it looks like you know.
But There’s no End…
As you have realized, the road to success is always a work in progress.
And in between the excitement of the beginning and the uncertainty in the middle, your building in public effort is dwindling.
In personal branding, building in public means openly sharing your journey of career development and personal growth with your audience. This can include things like:
Sharing your story: Talk about your experiences, challenges, and lessons learned. (See example).
Documenting your progress: Show your audience how you're working towards your goals. (See example).
Being transparent about your struggles: Don't be afraid to show vulnerability and share your setbacks. (See example).
Asking for feedback: Invite your audience to provide input and support. (See example).
The goal of building in public is to build trust with your audience, establish yourself as an authority in your field, and attract opportunities that align with your personal brand.
Without it, there’s just a little BIG problem- You need money.
And the opportunities are out there, online.
So How Can You Stay Consistent With Building in Public
The first step is self-awareness.
Branding has a lot to do with building people’s perception of you.
You want to make sure you are showing them a part of you that you want them to see- in this case, a world-class digital talent.
Ask yourself some questions like:
- Who am I?
- What are my values?
- What do I want the world to look like with me in it?
- What are my core skills?
- What skill can people pay me for?
- What does success mean to me?
These are the foundational questions because they will guide your choices as you progress.
The next step is to create a strategy.
Many times, people don’t see the need to put together a strategy for their personal brand and that is why they are inconsistent and non-committed.
Posting and hoping that something sticks will not work because hope is NOT a strategy.
On the other hand, having your plan on paper keeps you agile and accountable.
And to do this, you need content pillars and buckets. (You can use both or either of them- as long as it’s aligned with what you want to achieve).
For instance, the image below is how Matt Gray- the fourth fastest-growing creator on LinkedIn, builds his content strategy.
At Creaitz, our content strategy looks more like this:
The final step is to build an audience.
There are two simple ways to do this: engage other people’s posts and share your content.
When you engage people’s posts, you get their attention and they naturally want to return the favour.
Also, sharing your posts on your WhatsApp status and the groups you belong to can get more eyes on your content.
Doing this often will help you build an engaged fanbase.
Where to Find Content Inspiration
There are many places to look to find content ideas:
Share something from your personal experience
Mine ideas from platforms like YouTube, Udemy and Amazon. Find the best-performing products/content in your niche, see the questions they answer and replicate them.
Use a website organization tool, like Feedly, to track different websites that matter to you. You create different categories and organize your preferred sites in them. That way, you can always visit your dashboard and see tons of ideas. Here’s an example:
